Required for April 2024 or September 2024

NOR: 1061

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed Deputy Maths Lead to join a friendly and supportive department which has developed into a highly regarded team, under strong leadership, in line with the rapid improvement of the school. Applications are welcome from experienced practitioners, able to teach throughout the age and ability range, with the relevant skills to add leadership capacity by taking on a key role within Maths.

The principal responsibility of the Deputy Maths Lead will be to devise and implement cohesive strategies to sustain the improvement in results within the department (69% of our students achieved a Grade 4 or better in Maths in 2023). Additional roles will be negotiated following appointment based on the successful candidate's strengths and experience. This opportunity would suit any teacher with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to raising standards and the ability to form positive relationships with young people.

These are exciting times at Alec Hunter, since our November 2022 Ofsted inspection confirmed that the school continues to be 'good', with the report noting that "Staff morale is high. They feel valued by (the) leadership team (and)… like many pupils, enjoy being part of Alec Hunter Academy".

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. As a member of the Saffron Academy Trust, we work in close partnership with a small family of schools in north-west Essex, including Saffron Walden County High, one of the highest performing schools in the county. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. This includes online checks for shortlisted candidates - you can read more about this in our Recruitment and Selection Policy Statement. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at an enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
