We are looking for a kind, patient and nurturing Learning Support Assistant to join our friendly team at Great Leighs Primary School. This is a part-time role (2 days per week - Tuesday and Friday 08:45 - 15:15) to support a child in Year 1 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
We are looking for someone who can bring a calm and happy approach to each day, and who can build a trusting relationship with a child who has faced significant early life challenges. The right person will be compassionate, resilient and able to offer consistent, gentle support to help them feel safe and ready to learn.
You will:
- Be warm, calm and positive in your interactions.
- Work closely with the class teacher and our supportive staff team.
- Be willing to follow and learn our TPP approach to behaviour and relationships.
- Show understanding, flexibility and patience.
- Knowledge of successful strategies to engage pupils with specific and significant needs
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
- Enjoy working as part of a caring and committed school community.
- Flexibility and a good sense of humour
- The ability to use their own initiative
- Willing to undertake training and support individual needs
- Support the class teacher where necessary in planning differentiated work for the pupil
- Create simple resources to support the pupil's work, as appropriate
- Attend INSET days and training as identified by the Head teacher
