St Francis Catholic Primary School is a welcoming one-form entry Catholic primary school, located in the heart of Braintree town. We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly school kitchen team. This role is essential in supporting the preparation and service of meals to our 170 children daily, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming dining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the school kitchen in preparing and cleaning in readiness to serve daily meals to children and staff
- Support the preparation of fresh vegetables, salad and drinks
- Support the preparation the salad bar and fresh fruit for children
- Wash up children's plates, cutlery, large cooking pans and utensils
- Operate the dishwasher and dry up and store kitchenware
- Support in deliveries of produce to the litchen
- Serve meals and drinks to children during lunchtime
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in the school dining hall and kitchen
- Assist with daily cleaning of the kitchen and hall
- Participate in deep cleaning tasks in the kitchen during school holidays (limited requirement)
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Experience or willingness to work in a kitchen or food preparation environment
- Ability to follow health and safety guidelines rigorously
- Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to train
- Physical ability to perform cleaning and kitchen duties efficiently

- Friendly and approachable manner, especially when interacting with children
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Reliable and punctual
