· Would you like a job which fits around your family commitments?

· Would you like to go home from work feeling you've really made a difference?

· Are you looking for an exciting new challenge?

The Hawthorns School opened in Chelmsford in January 2023, for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The Hawthorns began its journey with just 15 pupils and a small, skeleton staff in temporary accommodation. In September, our intake increased to 25 and when the new build is complete, our capacity will be 70 pupils

An exceptionally rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint class-based support staff to provide help and assistance for pupils with autism.

Whilst prior experience of working in a school would bring benefits, it is not essential. What is more important is a desire to learn, adaptability and, most importantly, a 'can do' attitude.

Working at The Hawthorns School is destined to be highly rewarding and we can offer you:

· Term-time working paid annual leave + 8 bank holidays, depending on length of service

· A range of high-quality professional development opportunities

· Support, training and encouragement from members of the SEAX Trust's Central Team

· A career pathway including internal career progression opportunities

· Local Government Pension Scheme facilities

· A varied and challenging role, rewarded by recognition of achievement

· A fair work-life balance, employee assistance programme and commitment to staff wellbeing

· A firm commitment to equality and diversity

· A strong sense of cohesion and belonging

· A role in which you will truly make a difference to the life chances of children and young people with autism.

If you would like to apply, please complete and return a SEAX Trust application form before the closing date, which is also available on this page. Full details can also be found on the Essex Schools Jobs Website www.essexschoolsjobs.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

33 hours per week, 40 working weeks per year.

The Hawthorns School, Fox Crescent, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 1BN

The SEAX Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to satisfactory medical checks, enhanced DBS clearance and references.

Information about the School

The Hawthorns School opened its doors in January 2023 for children with autism. We are now in our beautiful purpose-built school in the heart of Chelmsford and are extending our provision for KS3 and KS4 pupils.

The provision at the school caters for pupils who have a diagnosis of autism and will offer a full-time education with a focus on social communication, emotional regulation and relationship-building while, at the same time, offering a broad and balanced range of curriculum subjects, including literacy and numeracy.

Pupils will be aged 7-16 and will have an EHCP. There will be ten residential places available for pupils from Monday to Thursday each school week. These will be managed by the school and will enhance the day curriculum offer.

We have established a school which embodies the ethos, vision and values of the SEAX Trust and the other schools in the Trust (Thriftwood School & College, Langham Oaks School, Grove House School and Kingswode Hoe School).

The Hawthorns’ mission:

Our mission is to provide a personalised and imaginative curriculum designed to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to build the basis for a purposeful and fulfilling adult life for young people with autism. Through outstanding teaching and secure relationships, pupils will gain the confidence to communicate effectively, acquire appropriate accreditation for next steps forward, learn core skills for life, develop healthy relationships, self-advocate, contribute to their community and keep themselves safe.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
