Job description: Senior Learning Mentor (Secondary)

Salary Range: £25,700 - £28,700 gross
£22,042.69 to £24,615.77 pro rata
REACH Essex Ltd supports both children and families to reach their full potential. You are required to work within our newly established, ever growing, Thrive Provision (Secondary) where children are accessing Alternative Education. Pupils attending the provision may have been referred in from schools or the local authority. We strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment that will enable our pupils to receive the highest standard of support appropriate to their individual needs.
We are looking to recruit a committed and creative professional who is passionate about providing high quality support and education to pupils to enable them to develop and thrive. Applicants will need to be dedicated and enthusiastic in providing outstanding outcomes to children and young people with all aspects of their lives. The successful candidate will have the experience and or knowledge of Hair and Beauty, Animal Care or Food Tech and the ability to plan and deliver creative and engaging lessons to our pupils. The incoming Senior mentor will be expected to communicate effectively with stakeholders and deal with very difficult and challenging situations.
Reporting to: Assistant Director
Plan and deliver creative and engaging educational sessions for pupils aged 11-17.
Communicate enthusiasm in ways that engage the pupils, fosters their motivation and willingness to engage and contribute to effective outcomes being achieved.
Contribute to the overall aims, objectives and outcomes of the Thrive Provision.
Maintain respect, professionalism and confidentiality.
Extensive training is provided to all staff. REACH are committed to professional development and will devise a bespoke CPD offer to enable individuals to reach their full potential. CPD includes but is not limited to:
- Essex Steps
- Safeguarding Level 2
- Thrive Licensed Practitioner Training
- Mental Health Awareness
Main duties and responsibilities:
Facilitate lessons with approximately 4-5 pupils per hub. Lessons may include: Animal Care, Hair and Beauty and Food Tech. Follow and implement the Mid Term Plan in your designated session.
Create creative lesson plans that enable exploration in English and Maths through a thematic and playful approach.
Complete the daily Journal log for your sessions.
Q and A half termly reports, Learning Journals and Mid Term Plans.
Be a point of contact for staff that are delivering Asdan Sessions.
Support staff in uploading evidence for Asdan Portfolios.
Deliver a therapeutic approach to promote and reinforce pupils self-esteem through praise, encouragement and exploration.
Use a range of strategies and resources to provide a purposeful lessons which develop positive attitudes, values and behaviour alongside offering learning opportunities.
Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with pupils, parents/carers, staff and external agencies in the best interests of pupils.
Lead, organise and direct support staff within the provision.
Hold Line Management responsibilities when required.
And any other duties required by the Thrive Provision Lead.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status or alternative teaching qualification) - Desirable
Previous experience in delivering vocational lessons- Essential
Experience with counselling and/or mentoring - Desirable
Understanding and appreciation of working with vulnerable young people in the care system and those with SEND - Essential
Creative Practitioner equipped to deal with pupils who may have disengaged from mainstream schooling - Essential
Positive behaviour strategy knowledge and experience of helping children self-regulate emotions - Essential
Thrive practitioner or experience of trauma informed practice - Desirable
Excellent written communication, timekeeping, reliability, and timely reporting- Essential
Understanding of the Thrive Approach willingness to obtain Thrive licensed practitioner - Desirable
