Main scale Teacher - including NQT - 2 year fixed term contract
Pay scale point M1-M6 (£34,405 - £44,302 full-time)
Southend YMCA community school is seeking to appoint a main scale teacher who can teach across multiple subjects to work with small groups of mainly disaffected year 10 and 11 students.
The ideal applicant will have experience at teaching in at a secondary setting or working with this age group and in particular in supporting the GCSE curricula particularly English and Maths in preparing students for GCSE examinations. Our Alternative Curriculum is tailored for disaffected KS4 students and comprises Maths, English, ICT, Prince's Trust, PE, Design & Technology, Construction and Cooking.
The benefits of teaching small groups compensate for the general disaffection of our students who have previously struggled to cope in a mainstream environment. The ability to adapt and to modify and to recognise the needs of the individual is key to helping our students make progress. Resilience and personal strength of conviction are key strengths for teaching to work and flourish in our challenging environment.
The ideal applicant will be confident at GCSE levels 1-5 particularly in the subjects listed above to support closing the gaps in knowledge when students arrive to us. Experience with working in a different setting that could support and breakdown the barriers our students have, will be beneficial.
Visits to school are warmly welcomed contact Amanda Barling on 01702 212541 or e-mail Amandabarling@ymca.southend.sch.uk
