Contract Type: 37 hours per week, term time plus 15 days (42 weeks) Salary: Within the range £23,020 - £27,974 pro rata Closing date: Friday 8 June 2012 Employer website: www.theglc.org.uk The Gateway Learning Community is a partnership between the Gateway Academy, Herringham Primary School, Lansdowne Primary Academy and The Gateway Primary Free School. The Learning Community is working closely together to share best practice and resources to provide a universal entitlement to the highest quality education and breadth of opportunity. We are looking to appoint an experienced Education Welfare Officer to support the improving attendance and pastoral support in the schools within the Gateway Learning Community.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of supporting schools in this role previously or have worked in an Attendance Officer role. You will have an excellent understanding of the common assessment framework and have experience of working with external agencies. As part of the role you will be expected to be able to meet with school staff, students, and parents to identify problems and possible solutions; advise parents about their legal responsibility to ensure their children receive an education up to the age of 16, and take action through the magistrate’s court if necessary.
Administration experience in tasks such as writing up case notes, sending letters to parents and preparing court reports is required but not essential as support will be provided but education welfare officers are also involved in regulating child employment, advising on child protection issues, and preparing reports on pupils with special educational needs as part of the statementing process.
