Job Role: Teacher
Salary:Teacher / Main Scale/ UPS (+ SEN2 allowance for QTs)
Start Date: ASAP although we understand this may not be possible and we are prepared to wait for the right candidate.
Are you passionate about making a real difference for vulnerable learners? Ready for a teaching role like no other?
A rare and rewarding opportunity has arisen - this role offers something truly different from traditional teaching positions.
As our offer for students expands Children's Support Service is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Teacher to join our Reconnect Team working with KS3 & 4 - a truly unique opportunity to deliver education in the community, in students' homes, and in local libraries.
You'll play a vital role in our bespoke educational programme designed for students who struggle to engage with on-site education. Working as a 1-2-1 teacher, you will deliver structured, time-limited teaching experiences focused on core subject skills, personal development, building engagement, identifying and addressing individual barriers, and rebuilding students' readiness to access centre-based education in one of our schools located in Basildon and Wickford.
What makes this role unique:
This isn't a traditional classroom role. You'll be taking education directly to where students feel most comfortable - meeting them in their homes, local libraries and community spaces. This flexible, student-centred approach allows you to build trust and engagement in ways that traditional settings simply can't achieve.
What you'll be doing:
- Teaching in community settings - homes, libraries and other local venues where students feel safe and supported
- Delivering personalised, one-to-one sessions tailored to each student's individual needs and circumstances
- Building trusting relationships with students who may have experienced educational trauma, disengagement or significant barriers to learning
- Working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to identify barriers and develop creative, flexible support strategies to ensure students return to our school sites
- Tracking progress and adapting your approach to help students rebuild their confidence and readiness for learning
- Creating a safe, supportive learning environment wherever you are - bringing education to life in non-traditional spaces
What we're looking for:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (instructor applications considered)
- Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort working independently in community settings
- Experience working with students with SEMH needs
- Strong subject knowledge ideally in Maths and English
- Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations
- A creative, resourceful approach to teaching without the traditional classroom environment
- Confidence in building relationships with students and families in their own environments
- Empathy, resilience, and a genuine belief that every child can succeed
- A willingness to travel within the local community (mileage expenses covered)
Why join our team?
- Students at the heart of everything we do - you'll see the direct, transformative impact of your work every day
- Supportive multidisciplinary team - work alongside specialists who share your commitment to vulnerable learners
- Professional development opportunities - we invest in our staff's growth and learning, including training in community-based education delivery
- Wellbeing support - we understand the unique demands of this role and provide support to help you thrive
- Make a significant impact - help transform the educational journey of young people who need it most, reaching them where they are
This is more than a teaching job - it's a chance to be part of something genuinely innovative and life-changing.

Information about the School
The Children’s Support Service is a short stay alternative provision in Essex. We educate and support children from KS1 - KS4 as well as providing an outreach service which works to support students, staff and schools in the local area. Our schools are based in Basildon (secondary) and Wickford (primary and secondary).
Our Medical Education Team work across South and West Essex and focus on not only educating children and young people but crucially reintegrating our students back into their mainstream school.
We now offer, in partnership with Essex Local Authority Education Access Team, an education and reintegration programme for students who have been permanently excluded from any part of Essex back to their local mainstream school.
Most of our students are referred to us due to challenges they may have faced in school; many come with additional needs and require academic, emotional and social support. We pride ourselves on overcoming these challenges and ensuring every student is successful.
We offer a wide range of subjects and match a mainstream setting through our core curriculum offer. At the same time, as a 'needs -led' provision we offer extensive enrichment opportunities to our students.
We collaborate with schools and professionals who need our support, and aim to reintegrate students back into mainstream education or prepare them for other lifelong learning opportunities.
Our staff create positive, safe, caring and supportive learning environments, helping to inspire every child to 'be the best they can be.'
CSS staff benefit from flexible working arrangements, our subscription to an Employee Assistance Programme, which provides mental health and well-being support services for all staff, including 24/7 access to advice, support and counselling for our whole team.
Please note that car insurance including "business use" is required.
