Welcome to St Mary's School. We have been educating girls from Colchester and the surrounding areas since 1908 and as such have built a very strong reputation within our local community. Throughout this time the school has grown in size and is now located on two sites. The Senior School is close to the town centre whilst the Lower School and Kindergarten enjoy a more rural location.

St Mary's is a happy and thriving school and we are proud of each and every one of our pupils. We are proud of our diverse student population and we are passionate to create a team of staff and governors reflective of this diversity.

The Senior Leadership Team at St Mary's is small, and the positive and collective vision of the team has ensured the success of the school.

Throughout its 115-year history, St Mary's has benefited from the support and guidance of a highly committed Governing Body, which works with the School's Senior Leadership Team to ensure that St Mary's continues to provide a high quality education and a happy learning environment.

The Board of Governors comprises a combination of professionals, business leaders, members of the local community, former students, and the parents of former students, all of whom bring individual skills, insights, and experience.

We are looking to recruit a SEND Governor. The SEND Governor has oversight of the school's provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring it aligns with the school's values, policies, and statutory requirements. This role involves working closely with the SENCO, Senior Leaders and Managers, and Governing Body, to uphold an inclusive, supportive, and aspirational environment for all pupils. The SEND governor is expected to help maintain the highest standards of SEND support, reflecting the school's commitment to every child's progress and wellbeing.

If you are able to offer your expertise or know of someone who may be interested in the role, please contact our Clerk to the Governors for more information: clerk@stmaryscolchester.org.uk

Information about the School

St Mary's School is a happy, high achieving independent day school for girls aged 4-16 years with a Kindergarten for children age 2-4 years. We are a member of the Girls’ Schools Association, Independent Association of Preparatory Schools and the Independent Schools Association.

At St Mary’s, we believe that girls are remarkable and have different educational needs. With us, girls will be inspired, build resilience, advance academically, learn what interests her and grow. We understand that the girls’ wellbeing matters and is critical to achieving. Girls at St Mary’s are not only self-confident and capable, but also kind and considerate.

Parents want the world for their daughters – and so do we. When she leaves us, she’ll be empowered to rise to the challenges and the opportunities the world presents.

We have a low staff turnover at St Mary’s, but occasionally we are in the position to invite suitably qualified individuals to join our friendly, close-knit team.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
