Learning Support Assistant

Learning Support Assistant required for 30 hours per week (8.45am -3.15pm) across 5 days including a lunch time duty of 30 minutes and an unpaid 30 minute lunch break.

Start date: Summer term - April 13th 2026 or ASAP.

Salary: Scale 2 or 3 dependent on experience

Salary range: £24,510 to £27,301. Actual salary (pro rata) is £17,150 to £19,103. Term time only

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in our friendly and supportive school.

This role would suit someone who has experience of working with children or a university leaver educated to degree level looking to move into teaching in the future, who would like to work in a school to develop their experience.

To become part of this team it would be advantageous if you have experience of working with children, previous experience of working with SEND children is desirable.

Role

Applicants must be enthusiastic, dedicated to the welfare and achievement of every child, positive and able to work on their own initiative, as well as follow direction from other members of the staff team. Working alongside teaching staff you will support children to achieve success both in class and through interventions.

You will;

· have a patient and positive approach towards supporting pupils' learning.

· be conscientious and enthusiastic at all times.

· be able to work on your own initiative.

· have a clear understanding of positive relationships and behaviour management.

· need to be able to work as part of a team and be able to liaise with other members of staff.

· be organised with good communication skills, able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility, and understand the professional nature of the role.

· be able to lead games and supervise children effectively during playtimes and lunchtimes.

You will be expected to;

· Take some responsibility for the running of individual support plans and interventions and monitor the progress of SEND pupils.

· Carry out and write up necessary observations to inform and evaluate the child's needs and achievements.

· Help to organise the classroom to create a positive learning environment.

· Motivate pupils.

· Work with others to plan and coordinate work.

· Stay up to date with and implement changes and developments through the CPD on offer.

· Take part in school events and activities.

· Be patient, empathetic, and have an ability to build rapport with children, creating a safe, stimulating and supportive teaching environment.

· Work 30 minutes per day at lunchtimes supporting purposeful, safe play as part of the MDA team

Applicants need to hold relevant qualifications such as;

· Relevant LSA qualifications e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 or degree, and/or be willing to undergo training.

· A good overall basic education is essential; it is essential that you have GCSE or equivalent in at least Mathematics and English at grade C or above.

Information about the School

Giffards has been a primary school since 2005, with the amalgamation of the previous Infant and Junior schools. We currently have 14 classes with 405 pupils. We are a welcoming, friendly and inclusive primary academy, where we nurture and celebrate the achievements of all of our children. We have a large, experienced team of teachers and LSAs as well as specialist Music and PE staff. This has created a large school. We have invested heavily in ICT; all our classrooms have interactive screens as does our music room. We have an ICT suite with 30 computers plus interactive screen and also every child has access to their own chrome book as well as a set of headphones. All teaching staff have their own laptops which are used for planning and centralisation of information and resources.

Giffards Primary School continues to be a good school. The pupils at Giffards Primary School are walking, talking examples of the school’s values, particularly being caring and respectful. They build warm, supportive relationships with staff - Ofsted March 2022
