Job Description

Following the successful amalgamation of the Infant and Junior School, we are looking to expand our workforce and appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring Teaching Assistant to support Key Stage 1 /2 pupils in their learning. This is a permanent, term time only post contracted to work 28.75 hours per week (negotiable) commencing March 2026 (if possible). The hours will be 8:45am- 3:15pm (negotiable) and may include a lunch time duty. The post is term time only. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team of educators with opportunities for career development.

The rate of pay for the post is Essex Schools Local Government Pay Scale 3 Points 5-6 with a starting salary of FTE £25,583- £25,989 (full time equivalent) per annum. This will be paid pro rata (£16,585-£16,848).

The successful candidate will support Classroom Teachers in the teaching and management of pupils in the classroom establishing good relationships with pupils and acting as a role model for them. You will also support pupils at lunch times.

You must have some relevant experience and a minimum of English and mathematics at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain classroom experience in a calm and productive learning environment.

Key activities of the Teaching Assistant include:

· Supporting pupils in undertaking literacy, numeracy and other learning tasks

· Preparing the classroom for lessons

· Undertaking pupil record keeping

· Promoting good pupil behaviour

· Encouraging pupils to work independently and with others as appropriate

Information about the School

Montgomery Primary School is a three form entry school with nursery established following the merger of the Junior and Infant schools in September 2025. Located on the leafy, garrison estate, the school has well established links with the military community and are proud to serve the families locally.

Staff vacancies are rare due to the supportive team of staff and well behaved pupils. The school is set in extensive grounds with well kept facilities.

The school was inspected in March 2025 and was described as 'Good' in every category, with the potential to move to outstanding. Inspectors commented "Pupils are immensely proud of their school. They recognise and value the very high quality education and opportunities that they access as ‘Monty’ pupils. They enjoy the wide-ranging and well-taught curriculum. The school has very high expectations of pupils. Over time, pupils thrive and achieve well."
