Rickling Church of England (VA) Primary School is seeking to appoint a CateringManager to manage the day-to-day running of the school kitchen, ensuring the provision of high-quality, nutritious meals for pupils and staff. The Catering Manager is responsible for menu planning, food preparation, stock control, and maintaining excellent hygiene and safety standards in accordance with school and local authority guidelines.
This is a part time position Tuesday and Friday, 9am- 1pm. Term Time only - 38 weeks per year.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and serve well-balanced, healthy meals in line with school food standards and dietary requirements.
- Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, and presented to a consistently high standard.
- Oversee the safe and hygienic operation of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with food hygiene, health & safety, and allergen regulations.
- Manage stock levels, order supplies from approved suppliers, and control food costs within budget.
- Maintain accurate records relating to food safety, temperature checks, deliveries, and cleaning schedules.
- Liaise with school leadership and staff to accommodate special events, theme days, and dietary needs.
- Foster a positive, welcoming atmosphere in the dining area, promoting healthy eating and good table manners among pupils.
- Report maintenance issues or equipment faults promptly and ensure kitchen equipment is used and maintained safely.
- Attend relevant training courses and meetings as required.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Previous experience in catering management or a supervisory kitchen role.
- Knowledge of food hygiene, health & safety, and allergen management regulations.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain before starting).
- Strong organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to plan menus and manage budgets effectively.
- Friendly, approachable manner with a commitment to providing a positive dining experience for children.
Desirable:
- Experience working in a school or similar setting.
- Level 3 Food Safety qualification.
- Experience catering for special dietary needs
