A skilled, imaginative English teacher with patience and understanding is needed to work with individuals and small groups in an in-patient mental health setting.You will be committed to the provision of varied and engaging English and literacy teaching from KS3 to KS5 at all abilities.
We are looking for a dedicated teacher to join our small, specialist team working with young people with serious mental health difficulties aged 13 to 18 admitted to the St Aubyn Centre NHS adolescent psychiatric unit.
You will also act as Key Teacher for a small group of young people, liaising with parents/carers, community schools and other professionals as required. An ability to work closely with other members of the team is important. You will be working with professionals from other disciplines in a hospital setting to help the young people admitted to hospital, supporting them with their recovery and enabling them to re-engage with education, training or employment.
This position is required for September 2025 to cover maternity leave for a maximum of one year. Candidates are advised to visit the centre before submitting an application.

Information about the School
The St Aubyn Centre Therapeutic Education Department is the specialist education provisions for young people admitted to the NHS adolescent psychiatric unit in Colchester, Essex. We provide education for young people with serious mental health difficulties aged 13 to 18 .
The education department works closely with the nursing, medical and therapeutic teams at the centre to support the young people and enable them to return to the community as quickly as possible. We have strong links with local schools as well as with other community organisations.
