SCIENCE TECHNICIAN
Pay Range: Local Government Scale 4
Actual Salary from: £21,339 - £21,698 (Points 7-8)
Start Date: 1st September 2024
The Role
We are seeking an outstanding Science Technician to join Philip Morant School and College.
Our science team has extensive facilities with separate prep rooms for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All three sciences are studied to A level and our Sigma Sixth STEM Academy engages in a wide range of trips and activities to promote a love of science in the Sixth form and all ages in the school.
This role will support the delivery of science lessons particularly in the areas of preparation and cleaning/clearing of lesson materials
- This post is 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time plus non-pupil days and one week of the school holidays).
- The working pattern will be 8am - 4pm Monday to Thursday and 8am - 3:30pm Friday (including a 30-minute unpaid break).
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensure the efficient preparation and organisation of equipment for lessons as requested on the daily 'Apparatus Request Sheet' (primarily physics lessons, but also biology and chemistry lessons as necessary)
- Maintain safety equipment in good working order (e.g. clean goggles, replenish spill kits etc.)
- Set up demonstrations and support teaching staff and pupils as required
- Assist with the repair and maintenance of science equipment and fabricate small items for use in class practicals

We're looking for you if you have:
- Full working knowledge of ICT to support learning
- Good reading, writing and numeracy skills
- The ability to exchange verbal information clearly and sensitively with children and adults
- The ability to use initiative and work without direct supervision, taking responsibility for tasks
- Understanding and can implement the school's behaviour for learning policy
- Commitment to the safeguarding of children and following relevant policies
