Are you interested in shaping education outcomes in Stanway, Colchester? Are you interested in contributing to ensure high standards of achievement for children in school? Are you interested in helping develop an organisations' strategic direction, setting aims and objectives? If you answered yes to all 3 then we'd like to hear from you!

Lakelands Primary School is a new school that opened in Stanway in September 2020. We currently have three year groups, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, and are looking forward to our new cohort joining us in September 2024. We will be full with 420 places across 7 year groups by 2026.

Our school vision is that Lakelands pupils are motivated learners with a sense of pride and strive to do their very best, whatever their background or starting points. Each child has an individual personality and our dedicated staff will help to develop their confidence and self esteem. Pupils will know about the importance of community and the values that underpin this; mutual respect, positive relationships and helping others. They will be responsible global citizens, equipped with the knowledge and skills to be forces of positive change in the world. They will leave our school in Year 6 ready for their next step as confident and compassionate members of society.

The school is seeking to recruit new community Governors who can provide the school with strategic support and guidance ensuring high standards of achievement and progress.

Lakelands Primary School wants to continue to raise education standards and outcomes. Therefore we are looking to appointnew community Governors, with existing board level experience, to join the local school board. The ideal individuals will have a passion for education and provide the Lakelands with the highest levels of governance. The successful candidates will have a variety of experiences holding executive leadership teams to account. Insights from a wide-range of backgrounds ensure that boards are able to make informed choices on decisions that impact the lives of children and staff so you do not need prior experience in education to be appointed to the role.

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, non-operational commitment which typically involves attending 6 board meetings and some sub level meetings each year. This amounts to approximately between 2-4 hours per month.

What will you be responsible for?

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, strategic direction, and educational outcomes of the schools.

Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of Lakelands Primary School and its pupils.

The effective and efficient performance management of staff.

Overseeing the financial performance of budgets, making sure its money is well spent.

We offer a comprehensive induction, training and support package and this is a great opportunity for professional development at board level.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances including:

- An enhanced DBS Check

- 2 professional references

If you are interested and wish to come and see the school, or to have an initial conversation with the headteacher, Koulla Anslow, please contact us at or on 01206 484 033.
