Assistant Headteacher at The Hawthorns School

Salary: STPCD Leadership Scale 7-11 Actual Salary: £49,019 to £54,091 per annum*

(*subject to additional National Pay Award due September 2022)

An exceptionally rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an Assistant Headteacher, who will play a major role in formulating the aims and objectives of the school, establishing policy, managing staff and resources and monitoring progress towards their achievement.

The Hawthorns School is a brand new provision, opening in Chelmsford, for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The Hawthorns will begin its journey with just 15 pupils and a small, skeleton staff in temporary accommodation in January 2023, whilst construction of the permanent site is completed.

The Assistant Headteacher will therefore be an extremely important, central role within the school. By working closely with the Headteacher, the successful candidate will help to shape and create efficient procedures, which sustain the smooth running of the school and facilitate the best outcomes for pupils.

Information about the School

Established in 2015 The SEAX Trust is a multi academy trust of five academies, each with their unique style and specialism. Our schools span Essex: from Brentwood, to Chelmsford and on to Colchester. They serve over five hundred wonderful young people with a range of special educational needs: from moderate learning difficulties; speech language and communication needs; social, emotional and mental health needs as well as meeting the needs of a significant group of pupils in all of our schools with an autism diagnosis. Another aspect of our work is providing support to mainstream schools around meeting the needs of young people with autism and the Mid- Essex Autism Hub.
