Attendance Welfare Officer

30 hours per week - 42.6 weeks (38 weeks term time + annual leave)

07:30 to 14:00 (with a 30 minute break)

Actual Salary - £15,387 per annum (£12.04 per hour)

An Attendance Welfare Officer is sought to join an established pastoral team to make a significant impact on student attendance as part of the country's ongoing recovery plan from the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim is to reach those KES students who have a low attendance or are at risk of low attendance and provide support to promote and encourage regular attendance.

It is evident that regular attendance at school increases the prospects of students fulfilling their potential. The Attendance Welfare Officer will work closely with the Senior Attendance Officer and other members of the pastoral team to promote and encourage the attendance of all students, and where necessary, provide practical and emotional support to remove any barriers from attending school. The ability to empathise, as well as promote a positive, optimistic attitude to learning and achievement through regular attendance at school, with students and their families/carers is essential. A commitment to continuing professional development and gaining relevant qualifications is a prerequisite.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Successful experience working with children in a school environment
  • Educated to at least Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent qualification /experience
  • Ability to establish rapport and to maintain respectful and trusting relationships
  • The ability to overcome barriers to learning with children by implementing school policies, procedures and identified support mechanisms
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • A passion to improve student attendance collaboratively with students, their families/carers, as well as teaching staff to aid the progress of all students and develop their confidence
  • Ability to remain calm and empathetic under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A good understanding of Health and Safety, safeguarding and child protection
  • A commitment to equality and diversity and inclusion
