Director of Education

This is a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional Director of Education to join Berlesduna Academy Trust. With eight primary schools across South Essex, we have established a reputation for highly innovative and collaborative practice that significantly improves educational provision and is focused on equality and diversity. This strategic role requires senior leadership experience and management across a number of schools combined with a proven track record of successful school improvement.

About the role

The Director of Education (DOE) is accountable for ensuring the educational success of our schools within the overall framework of the Trust Development Plan, as well as individual schools' strategic plans to ensure Berlesduna Trust remains a leading Trust delivering highly innovative practice which offers the best possible learning experiences for all pupils.

The DOE will be committed to delivering our mission and values across all aspects of the curriculum with inclusion, well-being and diversity at the heart of all that we do.

The DOE will play a key role as part of the Trust Executive Team. This will involve working closely between the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Education (CFO), the HR Director (HRD) and the schools to ensure the Berlesduna Trust embeds its mission to transform the lives of children through partnership and collaboration. The DOE will use their exceptional data analysis skills to present robust performance reports to enable the Trust Executive, Trust Board and Governing Bodies to set challenging targets and take strategic and informed decisions.

The DOE will typically work a few days a week in the Central Trust Office in Basildon with the other days being on site working directly with the leadership teams in our schools to ensure high standards and levels of aspiration across Berlesduna Trust.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking an outstanding Director of Education who can demonstrate a track record of working across multiple schools and who has led school turnaround and improvement whilst sustaining high performance in good and outstanding schools. Ideally you will hold NPQH status and have worked as an Executive Head or Senior Leader in schools in challenging circumstances. You will be knowledgeable on the workings of a multi-academy trust and its core operations and demonstrate current understanding of national policy, the role of the Regional Schools Commissioner, Ofsted and related assessment and statutory requirements.

It will be both your capability to lead on its implementation in schools with varying contexts, combined with your ability to encourage others to partner and collaborate effectively, that will underpin your success in the role. We encourage schools to be independent in our Trust and reflect the community they serve; it is your role to support others to adopt and implement new strategies and practice successfully. We want our DOE to use their networks to further promote our Trust Abiding Principles and working practices for the benefit of other organisations so that we can reach as many children as possible.

Your ability to ensure that our schools can make the most of their unique differences whilst embracing the benefits of working together through collaboration and partnership is critical. This requires strong leadership skills to bring together all staff to secure high performance and quality of education for every pupil.

At Berlesduna Academy Trust we are proud of what we have achieved and our genuinely collaborative approach - we look forward to welcoming a dynamic Director of Education who is enthused by our model and committed to high standards, inclusion, equality and diversity.
