We are looking to appoint a Youth Worker to support pupils identified as being at risk of disengagement and deliver specific programmes to intervene and re-engage, helping the pupils in reaching their full potential. The successful candidate will:

  • Be a proactive positive role model for those pupils most at risk (including risky behaviours, CCE, consequential thinking and social skills), seeking out opportunities to engage and develop these learners
  • Develop relationships with parents to help them engage with the school positively, acknowledge the difficulties being experienced and support their child effectively
  • Liaise with teaching staff and external agencies to provide a holistic approach to pupil support and progress
  • Support targeted learners with transition into post 16 education and adulthood
  • Develop a pupil profile for each learner on the programme and communicate information that needs to be shared in a professional and timely manner

This is a new role within the Pastoral Department, which will build upon the strong foundations set up by our existing Pastoral Team. The team report directly to a Deputy Headteacher and is vastly experienced and central to our work in supporting pupils.

Why William Edwards School?

William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, life at William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes and we understand and value the importance of pupil-centred education.

Following the school's most recent inspection in May 2019, Ofsted said that "pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school" and that "the pastoral system offers high quality support on a daily basis". They added that "behaviour around the school is calm".
