Teaching Assistant to work in our Unit for Hearing Impaired Pupils

Band 2 whole range

To start September 2017

Our Enhanced Provision for Hearing Impaired Pupils is looking for an experienced TA with Level 2 BSL signing qualification to join our strong team of UHI Teaching Assistants and Teachers of the Deaf.

This is a Fixed Term position for one academic year in the first instance. You will be employed for 25 hours per week, working 38 weeks per year. The post will involve support for hearing impaired pupils, both within specialist groups and in their mainstream classes.

The successful candidates would need to:

· have excellent deaf awareness skills

· have the flexibility to use BSL, 2 "voice-on" SSE or oral communication as appropriate

· be able to build good relationships with staff and pupils and have a positive, enthusiastic and calm manner

· have knowledge of the primary curriculum especially for English and Maths

· have at least GCSE grade C in both Maths and English Language

· have Level 2 BSL signing qualification or higher

· hold HLTA Status or be an experienced TA prepared to study toward the qualification

The Nursery has places for 26 part-time pupils and they are involved in the social life of the school, helping them experience a very successful transition to our reception class in the mainstream school.The enhanced provision has 18 places and caters for pupils who are severe/profoundly deaf from across the whole of North East Essex.
