Job Details
The Progress Coach plays a vital role in supporting students' personal, academic, and career development at USP College. Working closely with teaching staff, support services, and external partners, the Progress Coach provides tailored one-to-one and group sessions to help students set clear goals, overcome barriers to learning, and stay on track with their study programme. They act as a key point of contact for students, offering guidance on attendance, progression opportunities, wellbeing, and employability skills.
In addition to monitoring academic progress, the Progress Coach contributes to the delivery of pastoral care, enrichment activities, and life skills briefings designed to equip students with the knowledge and confidence needed for adult life. These briefings cover a range of relevant topics, including personal finance, digital safety, wellbeing, and employability. By developing strong, supportive relationships and promoting high expectations, Progress Coaches play a crucial role in ensuring students achieve their potential and successfully progress to higher education, apprenticeships, or employment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Monitor student progress and achievement through the progress review cycle, ensuring timely and effective support.
- Support learners in reflecting on their development, setting personalised, meaningful targets using ProMonitor.
- Manage the student disciplinary process in accordance with college policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the Well-being Team to monitor attendance and progress, contributing to intervention strategies where needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of opportunities, activities, and external services available to support students' personal and academic growth.
- Support the planning and delivery of careers information, advice, and guidance for individuals and groups, actively promoting the college's Work Experience programme.
- Commit to being energetic, adaptable, and dedicated to promoting student success, progression, and personal development.
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to help students build confidence, develop skills, and overcome challenges.
- Organise and deliver engaging life skills briefings to learner groups, covering topics that support personal and professional development.
- Inform students about work experience opportunities, linking their career aspirations to the skills and knowledge gained through their programme and extracurricular activities.
- Liaise with relevant staff to support students identified as at risk, ensuring timely, appropriate interventions.
- Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers, maintaining regular, constructive communication about student progress.
- Play an active role in the learner induction process, supporting students through the initial assessment and settling-in period.
- Support and attend all college events such as open evenings, welcome days and taster sessions to promote the college to perspective students.
Job Requirements:
Essential:
- English and Maths GCSE and level 3 qualification as a minimum
- Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with ICT systems and reporting tools.
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Knowledge of education regulatory frameworks (e.g., Ofsted, awarding bodies).
- Experience in further education or similar education or youth group setting
- Knowledge of Safeguarding
- Relevant qualification in teaching or training
- Degree educated in a relevant field
