"Great leaders don't set out to be a leader, they set out to make a difference. It's never about the role, always about the goal."

Glenwood is an amazing place to be, for both learners and staff. We aim for nothing but the best in support of our learners and our mission is to be transformational. Our model is deeply rooted in making progress that is meaningful for learners and their families.

The successful candidate will be a professional who recognises the importance of doing things differently to ensure learners achieve and enjoy life.

We are looking for an Assistant Headteacher who can recognise the unique "fabulousness" and unique contributions of our learners, demonstrate initiative and contribute great ideas towards their lives.

As Assistant Headteacher at Glenwood School you will be a member of a daring and dynamic Senior Leadership Team and work closely with a diverse team of education and health professionals.

This is a challenging role which will be demanding in terms of thinking outside the box and coming up with brave and creative solutions. However, support will be there when you need it. We offer the chance to shape a role and to be involved with something very special.

Glenwood is a brave special school for pupils with SLD aged 3-19 years. We provide for 237 young people. We moved into a superb building in September 2017 and we have developed a successful 10 bed residential provision, which is an educational intervention, as part of the school's holistic approach. The future holds the development of a bespoke Post-16 building and also an extension to our facilities for home-linked learning.

You will be:

  • able to imagine life from each individual learners' point of view
  • experienced in leadership and management in a special school
  • lead by example as an outstanding classroom practitioner
  • aspirational and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and disabilities
  • lead others to be successful and effective on behalf of our young people
  • good at forming positive relationships and building partnerships
  • self-motivated and driven by opportunities to make a positive difference
  • a skilled communicator
  • positive, resourceful, innovative and able to embrace change

We can offer you the opportunity to:

  • join our school at a time of innovation and renewal
  • work closely with Curriculum Leaders to shape and deliver our 'Curriculum Worlds' for learners
  • develop your skills and experience within a thinking, daring and brave school
  • spend time with amazing young people and their parents/carers
  • join a hardworking, committed and professional team of staff and a supportive governing body
  • work in a school with an excellent reputation in the community
  • collaborate with a range of partner agencies on an unprecedented level
