Job Details

USP College are seeking to appoint a committed and motivated art, media & theatre Technician to oversee the day to day running of the departments, maintain equipment, run shows and gigs and finally to support learning.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the maintenance and development of materials, resources, and equipment.
  • Oversee the ordering of resources, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring adherence to budget constraints.
  • Assist the Creative Industries Managers with various duties as required.
  • Set up and operate equipment for teaching and exhibitions, offering support to staff and students.
  • Offer guidance and training in the safe and effective use of technical equipment.
  • Play a key role in preparing and setting up exhibitions, displays, and framing projects.
  • Assist in the development of digital learning resources, supporting the teaching staff in this area.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation systems, including operating procedures, equipment manuals, records, and inventories.
  • To provide technical support in the areas of lighting, rigging, project/stage management for rehearsals, productions, events and teaching sessions.
  • To operate technical equipment for rehearsals, performances and events.
  • Provide an efficient portage service, including the secure receipt and storage of deliveries for the Art and Design Department.
  • Ensure that health and safety documentation is visible, accurate, and up to date for all equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager and teaching staff to conduct stock checks, order consumables, and maintain records.
  • Carry out general maintenance on equipment within the department.
  • Undertake training to serve as the department's First Aider.
  • Work closely with the I.T Support team to ensure the smooth operation of computer suites.
  • Promote a safe and healthy working environment in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Encourage and implement recycling initiatives where possible.

Job Requirements

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work within budget constraints and manage resources effectively.
  • Competent in providing technical support and training on equipment usage.
  • Experience in setting up exhibitions or displays would be an advantage.

The right candidate will have:

  • Degree within subject area
  • Knowledge and experience of art and media in order to support learning
  • Competency and confidence working with in a range of Arts and Media processes, techniques and equipment.
  • Good practical background in technical support
  • Experience operating a lighting desk and lighting grid
