Alleyn Court Preparatory School is seeking an ambitious, professional and organised Deputy Director of Sport to strengthen and develop our sport provision across Years 1-6. Sport is central to life at Alleyn Court: we want pupils who are curious, courageous and compassionate - and who learn resilience, teamwork and leadership through high‑quality physical education and competitive sport.

This is a part‑time leadership role with a particular focus on girls' games and netball. The successful candidate will be an outstanding coach who can confidently teach a broad range of games and PE across the primary phase, lead girls' competitive pathways, and support boys' provision and mixed opportunities (we have recently introduced mixed netball, for example).

Key details

Role: Deputy Director of Sport (part‑time)
Phase: Years 1-6 (Reception teaching may be required occasionally)
Specialism: Netball expertise required; broad experience across primary games and PE essential
Start: September 2026 (earlier by negotiation)
Main responsibilities

Work in partnership with the Director of Sport to plan and deliver an ambitious, inclusive PE and games curriculum for Years 1-6 that reflects the school's values.
Lead and develop girls' games across the school, with particular responsibility for netball coaching, team development and competitive pathways.
Teach high‑quality PE and games lessons across the primary phase, adapting content so all pupils make strong progress.
Coach and prepare teams for fixtures, festivals and tournaments at local, regional and national levels.
Organise and manage fixtures, festivals, internal competitions and attendance at IAPS and ISA events; support logistics for away fixtures where required.
Promote and develop mixed‑gender opportunities (e.g. mixed netball) and support boys' team provision as required.
Lead and support extra‑curricular clubs and enrichment activities that broaden pupils' sporting experiences.
Support assessment and tracking of pupil progress in PE and games; use data and observation to inform coaching and curriculum development.
Contribute positively to the pastoral life of the school and to wider school events, modelling the school values.
The ideal candidate will

Have demonstrable expertise in netball coaching and experience of developing school netball programmes.
Be an outstanding practitioner in primary PE and games with a strong track record teaching Years 1-6.
Show clear experience of preparing teams for competitive fixtures and achieving measurable improvements in participation and performance.
Have experience of adapting PE for pupils with additional needs.
Possess relevant coaching/teaching qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 coaching awards, degree/PGCE or equivalent) and current safeguarding training.
Be an organised, proactive leader with excellent communication skills, able to engage pupils, parents and staff.
Demonstrate energy, creativity and a commitment to high standards and pupil wellbeing.
Be willing to work collaboratively across the school to embed inclusive and ambitious sporting opportunities.
What we offer

A warm, ambitious school community and motivated pupils who love sport.
Excellent facilities and resources to support curriculum and extra‑curricular sport.
A supportive senior leadership team and opportunities for professional development.
The chance to shape and grow a successful and inclusive sporting programme across the primary years.
Competitive salary and staff benefit in line with the school's pay scale (salary band to be discussed at interview).

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
