Job Title: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Primary)

Working Pattern: 2-3 days per week (negotiable)

Start date: September 2026 (January 2027 would be considered)

End date: Fixed Term contract linked to DfE funding

Current funding: Leadership Pay Scale

Purpose of the Role

To support the strategic leadership, development, and delivery of Maths Hub activity with a particular focus on primary phase provision, ensuring high-quality professional development that aligns with the vision & values of Venn Essex Maths Hub, Teaching for Mastery principles and the priorities of the Maths Hubs Programme.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Support

  • Work alongside the Maths Hub Lead to implement the Hub's strategic plan.
  • Contribute to the development of primary phase work programmes in line with national priorities set by NCETM.
  • Support evaluation and impact reporting across primary projects.
  • Attend and contribute to MHLM meetings to support the strategic running of the Maths Hub.
  • Ensure equity of the maths hub offer

2. Leadership of Primary Work Groups

  • Work closely with AMHL primary team to unite and live the vision and values of Venn Essex Maths Hub
  • Develop and support the running of NCPs (e.g. Teaching for Mastery, SKTMs, Research and Innovation).
  • Ensure consistency and fidelity to Teaching for Mastery approaches.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of participating schools.
  • Support recruitment and retention of LLMEs.
  • Identify potential schools for targeted support and work closely with AMHL TSM to ensure equitable approaches to TSM work

3. Professional Development Quality Assurance

  • Collaboratively plan and design high quality PD alongside AMHL and LLME
  • Support the development of LLME
  • Follow Venn Essex Maths Hub QA procedures to support LLME development
  • Analyse national and hub level evaluation and HAPPI forms

4. School & System Leadership

  • Build relationships with schools and Trusts
  • Build capacity by supporting with recruitment of future LLME
  • Promote equitable access to Maths Hub opportunities.
  • Support schools to access Maths Hub offers
  • Monitor school participation and support LLME with participant engagement

5. Communication & Engagement

  • Promote Maths Hub opportunities to primary schools.
  • Represent the hub at regional and national events where appropriate.
  • Contribute to reports, case studies, and communications.
  • Work with Maths hub operations team to promote the work of the maths hub, ensure timely communication with participants and responses to queries.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong track record as aprimary LLMEwith Maths Hubs
  • Deep understanding ofTeaching for Masteryand current maths pedagogy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work strategically as well as operationally.
  • Passionate about improving life chances for pupils across our region
  • Alignment to the Venn Essex Maths Hub vision and values

Desirable

  • Understanding of the wider Maths Hub offer
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Relationships with multiple schools/ MATs in Southend, Essex and Thurrock
  • 2-3 days availability per week (agreed upon through discussion)
