St Michael's C of E VA Primary School

Deputy Headteacher

Full Time - Permanent

Leadership Scale 8-12

Start Date: September 2026

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and compassionate Deputy Headteacher to join our two-form entry Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School.

Rooted in our Christian vision of "Journeying together with Christ", and guided by our core values of love, integrity, creativity, and resilience, we are looking for a leader who will actively embody these principles. The successful candidate will be inclusive in their vision and practice, modelling kindness, compassion, and integrity in their work with children, staff, and families.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious leader to work in close partnership with the new Headteacher to shape the strategic direction of the school, ensuring the very best outcomes for all pupils. The role will be out of class for the first year to enable full focus on leadership responsibilities, with this arrangement reviewed thereafter in line with the needs of the school.

The Deputy Headteacher will:

  • Work closely with the Headteacher to provide strategic leadership across the school
  • Lead teaching and learning across the school, modelling outstanding classroom practice with experience across the primary age range.
  • Coach and mentor staff to improve practice and outcomes for all pupils
  • Act as Induction Tutor for ECTs
  • Lead on personal development, behaviour and wellbeing, ensuring all children flourish
  • Work in line with our values and with an understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Be a safeguarding leader within the school

We are looking for a leader who is:

  • Committed to inclusive education and has high expectations for all
  • Is passionate about developing both pupils and staff.
  • Reflective, open to coaching, and able to build strong relationships across the school community, fully embracing our vision of "Journeying together with Christ" in all that you do.

We can offer you:

  • A welcoming, inclusive, and caring church school community where children are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Dedicated and supportive staff who work closely with families to ensure every child is nurtured and enabled to succeed.
  • A supportive and experienced IEB and strong links to the Diocese of Chelmsford Education Team and church
  • Well behaved and friendly pupils who are proud of their school and achievements
  • An active and supportive PTA

We would warmly welcome you to visit our school to find out more about this role.
