Required for September 2026 to July 2027
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to train at one of the country's leading selective schools, (awarded The Sunday Times Parent Power East Anglia State Secondary School of the Decade and The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year for Academic Excellence East Anglia 2026), alongside having residential boarding responsibilities. Colchester Royal Grammar School is a leading UK state school for boys aged 11-18 and girls 16-18 with an international reputation for academic excellence.
Working in conjunction with the University of Buckingham, we are looking for an exceptional graduate to train as a PE teacher through their PGCE programme whilst living and working in our boarding community. Successful candidates will assist the Head of Boarding with the supervision and pastoral care of boarders during the week and be part of the weekend duty rota.
Candidates should ideally have a sports-related degree and relevant teaching or coaching work experience. The major boys sports of the school are rugby, cricket, athletics and football, and relevant experience in these areas is highly desirable. There is also the potential to run the senior girls netball team so relevant experience in this area would also be highly valued.
This position is salaried and includes accommodation, meals and the tuition fees for the PGCE at the University of Buckingham. Alongside boarding duties and a training timetable, candidates are expected to be a part of the PE team and fully contribute to the extensive extra-curricular programme including Saturday fixtures predominantly in the Autumn and Summer Terms. The successful candidate may need to attend relevant training to assist with their boarding duties, such as first aid, good hygiene and additional safeguarding training.
