Reporting to the Cover Administrator, we are looking for a Cover Supervisor who can provide efficient and professional classroom cover on an ad-hoc basis.

Please note this is not a teaching role; the expectation is for the individual to supervise the work and behaviour of the class. Full cover work will be set by the usual class teacher or Leader of department on all occasions, and the Cover Administrator and teaching colleagues will be available for support as required.

About The Role:

As a confident communicator, you will bring a positive approach to:

  • Act as a role model and set high expectations of conduct and behaviour
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom
  • Keep pupils on task and respond to general queries
  • Keep appropriate records of pupil conduct and behaviour during the lesson for the teacher
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and behaviour
  • Collect and study cover work set for assigned lessons. Seeking any clarification necessary
  • Arrive promptly to cover lesson
  • Check classroom attendance
  • Give instructions on work left by the absent teacher or Head of Department
  • State the learning aims of the lesson
  • Follow end of lesson requirements from the cover work including any homework instructions
  • Ensure that the room is tidy and dismiss in orderly fashion at the correct time
  • Act under the professional direction of other teaching staff

About You:

  • A perceptive thinker who understands the importance of keeping the students on task
  • Enthusiastic about the importance and delivery of education provision
  • Able to demonstrate an inclusive approach to groups comprised of a diverse range of abilities and backgrounds
  • Comfortable working with basic computer packages, particularly Microsoft Office
  • Experienced in an educational environment; in any capacity
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills with both adults and children

Key terms:

  • Casual post to cover for teaching staff absence.
  • Hours: Allocated on a casual basis, between 8.30 - 3.30, term time only - This is an ad-hoc, casual post so there will be no guaranteed hours, and no obligation to work hours offered. Hours may be offered in advance for a planned absence, or ad hoc on the day. Individual specific availability and flexibility can be discussed at interview.
  • Location: Based on site within the school.
  • Remuneration: The Essex Schools' Local Government Scale 5 point 9 (full time equivalent £26,409). Commencing salary £13.69 per hour (plus 12.07% holiday pay).
