Job Description: Learning Mentor

Reach are looking for Learning Mentors who have experience working with children and young people who have SEND and/or those who are Looked After. We are looking for individuals who adopt a therapeutic approach.

Applicants will need to be dedicated and enthusiastic in providing outstanding outcomes to children and young people with all aspects of their lives and have the ability to communicate effectively and deal with very difficult and challenging circumstances.

We are seeking Learning Mentors who can offer a creative approach to either or both mentoring and tutoring from Year 1 through to Year 13. Learning Mentors will provide in-person sessions, either in the home, in school, outreach in the community or based at our Great Baddow site.

Many of our children and young people need social and emotional support and experience of working with mental health needs including anxiety, depression and complex behaviour is desirable, also an understanding of the Thrive Approach.

Extension training is provided to all staff with aspirations to undertake the Thrive Practitioner training is essential (Thrive Practitioner training is provided). REACH are committed to professional development and will devise a bespoke CPD offer to enable individuals to reach their full potential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be expected to work across the organisation in Education, Mentoring and Thrive Provision.

· Facilitate sessions using plans that are provided

· Write half termly reports

· Deliver a therapeutic approach to promote and reinforce pupil self-esteem through praise and encouragement and exploration.

· Be sensitive to the welfare and care of the pupils emotional well-being.

· Develop pupils' regulation strategies.

· Use a range of strategies and resources to provide a purposeful session which develops positive attitudes, values and behaviour alongside offering learning opportunities.

· Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with children/young people, parents/carers, staff and external agencies in the best interests of pupils.

· Any other duties required by SLT

· Effectively safeguard children, young people, colleagues and yourself

Skills and Experience:

· Understanding and appreciation of working with vulnerable young people in the care system and those with SEND - Essential

· Excellent written communication, timekeeping, reliability, and timely reporting - Essential

· Hold a full UK driving licence - Essential

· Thrive practitioner or experience of trauma informed practice - Desirable

· HLTA qualification - Desirable

· Experience with mentoring - Desirable

· Creative Practitioner equipped to deal with pupils who may have disengaged from mainstream schooling - Desirable

· Positive behaviour strategy knowledge and experience of helping children self-regulate emotions - Desirable

Job Types:

Full-time, Part-time, Permanent - term time only

Salary:

Gross per annum £22,308 - £24,376.55 (Pro rota take home per annum £19,133.40 - £20,907.58)
