HEALTH & MEDICAL OFFICER

Fixed term in the first instance

Pay Range: Local Government Pay Scale 6, Point 13-17

Actual Salary from: £23,605 - £25,271 p.a

Start Date: 3rd June 2024

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented individual to provide medical support to students and staff at the School.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the medical room, keeping up to date records of students with medical conditions, and overseeing first aid and medical needs throughout the school day. You will promote health education and healthy lifestyles.

This post is 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time + non-pupil days + one week during school closure period), fixed term until June 2025 in the first instance.

The working pattern is 8.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am - 3.30pm Friday.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • To take charge of the safekeeping and administration of student medication with parental consent.
  • Administer First Aid to students and staff as needed.
  • To create Care Plans, with parents and HCPs, for all students with specific medical needs.
  • To advise and train school staff in specific procedures which they may be expected to carry out in the absence of a trained first aider.
  • Deliver CPR training as part of curriculum to students within lessons such as PHSE and Health & Social Care.
  • Completion of Risk Assessments for staff and students, including pregnancy, use of wheelchair and/or crutches and chronic health conditions.
  • Complete trips and visits care plans and organise first aid provision for trips, visits and overnight stays.
  • Coordinate student immunisations, provide venue and organise timetable and collection of forms.

We're looking for you if you have:

  • Experience of working in a school environment
  • A First Aid at Work Level 3 (VTQ) qualification (although training can be provided to the right candidate)
  • A good standard of education (ideally Maths/English GCSE grade A* to C or equivalent)
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A commitment to high standards of achievement.
