Salary band 10 Actual salary: £38,195 - £41,135 (Full time equivalent: £42,403 - £45,441)
Main purpose of the job:
- To oversee a financial system that is efficient, secure, solvent and provides the school with best value for money.
- To provide the Headteacher, School Business Manager and Governors with the financial information that allows them to make informed decisions concerning the financial management of the school.
- To provide support and guidance & direct line management of the finance processing role.
- To support the implementation of major site improvements.
Finance Duties:
- To support the School Business Manager with the preparation of the annual budget for consideration by the Finance Strategy committee and final approval by the Governing Body.
- To monitor the actual budget against expenditure and give notice to the School Business Manager of any significant variations.
- To provide budget details to the Senior leadership Team (Monthly) and to appropriate Governors meetings throughout the year.
- To support the Business Manager with management accounts preparation for the Finance Strategy Committee - to include a written commentary and benchmarking information.
- To complete monthly bank reconciliation and payroll returns.
- Monitor the school's cash flow.
- To oversee and check the accuracy of all payments/grants made to the school. Ensuring compliance with the terms of expenditure.
- To complete financial returns required by the LA and DfE.
- To submit any bids on behalf of the school as and when required.
- To prepare and submit quarterly financial returns as required by the LA.
- Support the School Business Manager with Capital Funding applications.
- Support the School Business Manager with the accounting and reporting requirements of DfE grants.
- To support the annual financial scrutiny review process.
- To maintain an Asset Register and the Register of Business Interests.
- To keep an up-to-date version of the "Financial Regulations" and ensure compliance.
- To ensure compliance with the monthly VAT reporting.
- To support the School Business Manager ensuring compliance of the schools' accounts payable process
- To prepare and maintain trading accounts (catering).
- Support the School Business Manager and Governors with the annual Schools Financial Value Standard return.
- With the support of the school business manager review and maximise income generation.
- Raise invoices and monitor debtors for lettings and other invoiced income.
- To work with the HR Manager to ensure contracts of employment and salary scales are correctly entered on the personnel system for accurate budgeting.
- To check payroll returns and input monthly payroll expenditure into the finance system.
- Develop and encourage other members of the team and establish good working relationships being confident in communicating with others.
- Work with the HR Manager to ensure changes to pay are implemented in a timely way and salary statement letters are issued.
- Work with the HR Manager on the annual workforce census.
- To act as treasurer for the school staff / parents association.

- To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
- To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace.
