Site Assistant and General Handyperson
Location - St Thomas More High School, Kenilworth Gardens, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, SS0 0BW
We are seeking to recruit a site assistant and general handyperson who will be able to work as part of the site team working to ensure the smooth running of the school site and that it is kept fit for purpose at all times.

Job Description -
Main purpose -
· Carry out first line repairs and maintenance which are not beyond the capability of the post holder
· Plumbing work eg repairing leaking pipes, replacing taps /washers etc
· Redecoration as appropriate
· Plastering work including repairing cracked /broken plaster making good damaged walls
· Mending broken fences and boundary repairs
· Drawing attention to the school business manager any repairs or maintenance required
· Carry out routine checks
Security -
· Lock and unlock the premises as required, including out of school hours when necessary
· Check at the end of the day that all windows, doors and gates are locked, lights switched off, and gas and electrical appliances are turned off
Health and safety -
· Ensure a safe working and learning environment in accordance with relevant legislation
· Carry out and record regular health and safety checks,
· Provide safe access to the school in cold weather conditions
Person specification -
Essential -
• Range of DIY skills such as electrical work, decorating, minor plumbing, and carpentry
• To work both as part of a team and independently
• Carry out manual handling
• Have a flexible approach
• Work outside of school hours
• Some weekend working for lettings
Desirable -
• Experience of working in a school
• Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding policies
• Experience of building maintenance
• Knowledge of health & safety regulations
