Science Technician
Pay Scale: New Thurrock Local Government Scale, Band A point 3 - 5 (approx. £13,700 actual)
25 hrs per week - 45.8 wks per year (1 extra paid week after 5 years of service)
Required - January 2024
We are looking to appoint a Science Technician to work in partnership with class teachers to support pupils' learning.
Treetops School is a special academy catering for pupils with a wide range of needs including moderate learning difficulties, speech and communication difficulties, autism and general developmental delay. We have been judged outstanding by Ofsted in our last four inspections, the most recent being February 2020.
The school is also the lead for the Thurrock Teaching School Alliance (TTSA).
Job Purpose:
As a Science Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of practical science lessons and experiments within our SEND school. Your responsibilities will include preparing equipment, maintaining resources, demonstrating experiments and ensuring a safe and conducive environment for both students and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up science equipment and materials for practical lessons according to teacher instructions.
- Ensure all science equipment is well-maintained, clean, and in good working order.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of science supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and communicate replenishment needs.
- Implement and adhere to health and safety guidelines for science experiments and activities, ensuring a secure environment for students and staff.
- Provide assistance during science demonstrations, offering support to both teachers and students as required.
- Work closely with the science department, teachers, and other support staff to ensure the smooth running of practical science sessions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience of working with children with special educational needs whilst not essential, is preferable.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Versatility and an ability to support our teachers in delivering a high standard of learning to pupils of all abilities
