Learning Support Assistant

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Salary: Thurrock Band A Point 1-6

(£18,370.43 - £19,664.03 per annum)

32 hours and 5 minutes per week

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 3:25pm (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)

37 weeks of the year - term time only

Start Date: 16th November 2026

An opportunity has arisen at Little Thurrock Primary School to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to support pupils who speak English as an additional language (EAL). You will have a passion for working with pupils and assisting them on their journey. You will need to have an understanding of the subjects that you support the children in, be able to demonstrate a positive attitude and apply school rules consistently. You will be resilient and have excellent de-escalation skills. The ideal candidate will be able to nurture supportive relationships and be able to demonstrate a practical, hands on approach to supporting teaching.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: - 

· The ability to communicate with other members of staff effectively 

· The ability to build a strong professional relationship with the children and their families 

· A willingness to take part in class planning and adapt it to the needs of the child where applicable 

· Good organisational and behaviour management skills 

· Good basic English and Mathematics, with a GCSE 4-9 or equivalent in both subjects

· The ability to communicate with parents and to attend professional meetings where required 

· Good record keeping skills (Progress and medical where required) 

· A willingness to support pupil with personal care 

· A passion for the impact teaching and learning can have on improving life 

· A commitment to supporting the delivering of education of the highest standard
