Thinking Reading Tutor

We are recruiting for an exciting new opportunity to join The Sweyne Park School as a Thinking Reading Tutor to develop and deliver a bespoke reading intervention programme and activities to support individuals or small groups of students to develop their reading skills, under the guidance and direction of the Literacy Coordinator/SLT link.

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for education and a strong commitment to improving student learning outcomes and who recognise the importance of reading ability in enabling academic and personal success. The ideal candidate will be able to provide support, encouragement, and feedback to help students build their confidence and overcome obstacles to their learning.

We are excited to be embarking on a journey with our students and 'Thinking Reading'. A comprehensive training programme will be available to support the suitable candidate to successfully use the diagnostic tools and resources provided by Thinking Reading.

The Role

Under the guidance and direction of the SLT link and the literacy coordinator, you will deliver bespoke reading intervention program (Thinking Reading) and activities to support individuals or groups of pupils, as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess students' reading abilities to identify areas of need and develop appropriate interventions. (Thinking Reading diagnostic tool).
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group instruction to pupils.
  • Ensure that all pupils are suitably supported to meet their learning needs and expectations, in particular pupils with SEND, Pupil Premium and more able pupils.
  • Monitor and track pupils' responses to learning interventions and accurately record achievement and progress.
  • Provide regular feedback to the SLT link, literacy lead, teachers and the SENDCO on individual pupils and their achievement, progress, and development areas.
  • Undertake preparation of pupils' intervention sessions using the set resources provided by 'Thinking Reading' to provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement, adjusting teaching plans as appropriate.
  • Liaise with parents and carers regarding student progress.
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment. Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with any issues which may arise, in accordance to the school behaviour policy
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, teaching and learning, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required and participate in appropriate training.
  • Undertaking other similar activities as directed.

Hours

Monday to Thursday, 8am to 4pm, Friday 8am to 3:30pm including a 30-minute unpaid rest break. Term time only. 39 weeks per year.

Renumeration

Scale 5 Point 9 (Range Point 9 to 12) £23,365per annum (£27,254 FTE)

Welcome to The Sweyne Park School, we are a larger than average mixed, 11-18 comprehensive school. The School became an academy on 1st April 2013 and opened its Sixth Form in September 2014.
