We are looking for an experienced, confident and efficient Admin Assistant to join our school office team for 2 days per week from September 2026. This is a permanent position.

The role involves providing comprehensive administrative support, first aid provision, and front-of-house services in our busy and vibrant school. You will also support the School Business Manager with finance-related administration, including acting as the first point of contact for dinner money and after-school club enquiries.

This post is for 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time, plus 2 INSET days and 2 days during the summer holidays).

One of your working days must be a Friday. The second working day is flexible and will be agreed in collaboration with the other part-time colleague.

Working hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Actual salary: £9,254.94 - £9,705.42 (FTE £25,989 - £27,254), depending on experience (Scale 3/4, points 6-9).

You will join a supportive staff team and work with friendly and caring children and parents.

This is an important role within the school, and the successful candidate must:

- Have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Be able to work effectively in a busy school office
- Maintain positive relationships with all members of the school community
- Adapt to changing priorities and demands
- Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Engage positively with parents and the wider school community
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Hold a minimum of GCSE grade A-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Have strong IT skills, including Word and Excel
- Understand the importance of safeguarding
The role is varied, with key duties including managing reception and providing efficient clerical and welfare support to the school, its staff, and stakeholders.

Previous experience in a school setting, knowledge of SIMS and ParentPay (or similar systems), and a First Aid qualification would be advantageous; however, training will be provided.

Please ensure all sections of the application form are completed in full, as incomplete applications will not be considered. To comply with safeguarding regulations, CVs alone will not be accepted.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if sufficient suitable applications are received. Interviews will take place throughout the application period, so early application is encouraged.

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Romy Barnes, School Business Manager, at finance@st-michaels-jun.essex.sch.uk to arrange a visit or for further information.

St Michael's C of E (VA) Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
