JOB DESCRIPTION: KS3/4 MENTOR

Hope Lodge, Colchester

DUTIES

· Be responsible for one area of the lodge, for its maintenance, organisation and oversee the use of it.

· Support the tutors to plan and teach immersive and exciting lessons.

· Support tutors to assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use

of assessment.

· Adapt your approaches to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils.

· Be able to co-regulate alongside unregulated students

· Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.

· Promote good outcomes and progress by pupils.

· Demonstrate an awareness and understanding around mental health conditions such as anxiety.

· Provide pastoral care supporting the wellbeing of pupils.

· Deliver interventions or programmes that have been recommended by specialists, for example, an OT.

· Contribute to the writing of annual school reports, Annual Review of EHCP documents, LAC reports, and contribute to Annual Review meetings, partnership meetings and structured conversations with parents.

· Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with parents/carers, health, education and social care professionals, therapists and visiting specialists for the benefit of pupils wellbeing and educational progress.

· Helping to plan and prepare for off site visits, onsite activities and organising resources.

· Taking the students off site using public transport, the lodge bus and/or own vehicle

· Take part in practical and physical activities such as swimming and using the gym

· Take part in morning and afternoon briefings daily.

· Take part in events days and community linked events throughout the year.

· Carry out shared supervisory duties in accordance with the rotas.

· Work as part of a team using shared systems and contribute to team meetings

· Facilitate student to enter for exams and work towards accreditations.

WHOLE-CENTRE ORGANISATION, STRATEGY AND DEVELOPMENT

· Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of our policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school's values and vision.

· Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.

· Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

· The post holder will work directly with teachers, mentors and pupils and will have regular contact with parents, carers and external agencies and professionals.

· Staff are expected to support pupils during unexpected bouts of illness, accidents and during periods of dysregulation. The ability to co-regulate and support students is essential.

· This post may involve being in situations when pupils are dysregulated and this may include challenging behaviours such as hair pulling, throwing items, hitting or kicking out.

· Hope Lodge uses Therapeutic Thinking Essex Behaviour Management procedures and all staff must adhere to this, full training will be given.

· Contribute to the maintenance, organisation and tidiness of the lodge including all areas of the house and garden.

OTHER

· This job description will be reviewed at least annually through Performance Management reviews and may be subject to adjustment or modification at any time after consultation with the post holder. It is not a comprehensive statement of procedures and tasks but sets out the main expectations of the school in relation to the post-holder's professional responsibilities and duties.

· Maths, Technology and STEM expertise qualifications desirable.

GENERAL

· To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.

· To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace.
