Outreach Engagement Mentor
Location: Based in Great Baddow, Chelmsford
Salary: £27,000 gross per annum (£23,157.69 per annum pro-rata), 37.5 hours per week, term time only
2 Vacancies Available, 1 to start immediately, the other to start in early 2026.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, resilient and proactive Outreach Engagement Mentor to join our new Outreach Team, and support school-age children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who are at high risk of exclusion, exploitation, or disengagement from education and provide tailored mentoring based on each student's needs (e.g autism, ADHD, dyslexia, emotional or behavioural challenges). You'll work closely with children, families, and schools to build trust, promote resilience, and help young people thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Provide intensive one-to-one mentoring for children facing complex challenges.
Build trusted relationships with children, families, and schools to identify barriers and develop tailored support plans.
Deliver targeted interventions to improve attendance, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.
Liaise with multi-agency partners including social care, youth justice, and mental health services.
Facilitate group sessions and enrichment activities that promote resilience and positive choices.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and risk assessments.
What We're Looking For
Previous experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential to effectively support their engagement, development, and inclusion.
Experience working with children or young people in educational, youth work, or mentoring settings is essential.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children and families.
Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and inclusive practice.
Creativity, patience, and a solution-focused mindset.
Qualifications in education, youth work, social care, or related fields are desirable.
