Midday Assistant
Pay Scale: TLW (approx. £4,630 actual)
7.5 hrs per week (11.45am to 1.15pm daily)
45.8 wks per year (1 extra paid week after 5 years of service)

We are seeking to appoint Midday Assistants to support students during their lunch time. This role involves ensuring students are safe, engaged and supported during outdoor play and lunchtime activities. The ideal candidate will have a compassionate approach to working with children with a variety of special needs and will be committed to promoting an inclusive and positive environment.
Previous experience of working with children with special educational needs whilst not essential, is preferable.
In March 2025 Treetops School was judged by Ofsted to have maintained the standards identified at the previous inspection. The previous inspection was in February 2020, at which time Treetops was judged as Outstanding. Treetops Free School, which officially opened in September 2022, was judged Good in its first Ofsted inspection in March 2024.
Students throughout Treetops Learning Community have complex needs varying from moderate to severe learning difficulties, which may include; speech and communication difficulties, autism and global developmental delay.
Job Overview
To maintain the safety, welfare and good behaviour of the pupils during the midday break
Where appropriate, assist pupils in selecting their meal. To assist in and aid positioning in the hall
To assist children with eating their meal if appropriate
To assist to clear plates and cutlery from the tables, clear up any associated spillages
To encourage the pupils to communicate using all appropriate methods i.e. using signing and symbols
Encourage the pupils to be independent
To provide pastoral care, guidance and routine advice to pupils as required
To encourage students to engage in inclusive, age-appropriate play activities that promote social, emotional and physical development
To work closely with classroom teachers to implement behaviour management plans and provide effective support
To communicate with staff about any incidents, concerns or needs that arise during lunchtime
To understand and apply school policies and procedures
To attend relevant training and meetings as required
General:
To undertake any training commensurate with the post
To show a responsible attitude to health and safety issues and have due regard for their personal safety and that of others
The duties above are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the Headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills and grade
