Educational Communicator for Deaf Children (BSL Level 3)

Salary: Thurrock Band C Point 13 - 19

(£19,748.87 - £22,637.63 actual salary per annum)

30 hours per week

Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:00pm (with a 30-minute unpaid break)

38 weeks of the year - term time only plus one week of additional hours to be used to support deaf pupils outside of lessons.

Start Date: 1st September 2025

Fixed Term until 31st August 2026

We are seeking an Educational Communicator for Deaf Children to work in the Additional Resource Provision for Deaf Children. The successful candidate will provide direct and indirect support for deaf students' speech, language and signing acquisition. They will work in a class with deaf learners to facilitate communication and access using a range of communication modes (Oral and BSL) and strategies as appropriate.

The successful candidate will assist in the preparation of learning materials including the transcription of videos and preparing learning materials appropriate to the needs of deaf learners and adapt or enhance the learning environment through technical aids. They will provide appropriate support to students during exams and assessments and support during activities outside of the class, for example residential trips and extra-curricular activities. Candidates will have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language.

Our reputation is one of very high academic standards and outstanding pupil conduct. St Clere’s School has gone from strength to strength and the past few years, St. Clere's School pupils have achieved significantly above national results. The Maths department have continued their trend of results, high in the 80s where one third of pupils left with a top grade of 7 to 9. The English department has also mirrored that success with results high in the 80s and significantly above national. Additionally, our progress score continues to be a solid positive and our Ebacc results are above national. Both ICT and separate sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) were 100% A* to C. These results are significantly above national figures and some of the best results in the history of our school, demonstrating: high quality teaching and learning; continuous dedication of staff and the engagement for learning of our pupils. All of this is evident on a daily basis at St Clere’s School.
