Teacher of the Deaf

Required from January 2026

Main scale + SEN points

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointed staff will be DBS checked without exception.

Due to an expansion of our resource base for deaf students we have an exciting opportunity for a teacher of the deaf to join our highly regarded, friendly and supportive team within our mainstream secondary school and will work with up to 27 deaf students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. We would like to recruit an enthusiastic, qualified teacher of the deaf who has a particular interest in the teaching of maths or language and literacy to deaf students.

Although this post is for a teacher who has the teacher of the deaf qualification, teachers without the qualification may be considered if they are able to demonstrate an active interest and commitment to the education of deaf students and have a history of sustained experience working in a variety of educational settings with deaf students. You would be expected to work towards gaining a teacher of the deaf qualification.

The successful candidate will also:

· have a record of good/outstanding teaching

· be committed to inclusive practice

· demonstrate experience of working with deaf students

show a thorough understanding of language development in deaf children
have experience of effective assessment and monitoring procedures
demonstrate a commitment to high standards of achievement by deaf children
be able to work effectively with families and external agencies
be well organised and able to work as part of a team and independently, both in the Resource Base and in the school as a whole
have good ICT skills and an ability to maintain audiological equipment
Additionally:

BSL Level 1 is essential; BSL Level 2 and 3 are desirable and a commitment to achieve them is expected
experience of teaching English, Mathematics or KS2 (preferred but not essential)

Our oversubscribed school again achieved a 'GOOD' rating in its Ofsted inspection in June 2022 and we have a commitment to supporting students in developing as well-rounded individuals as well as achieving their academic potential.

Great Baddow High School is very well thought of locally. Our motto, which translates as 'always striving for higher things' encapsulates our vision for our students and staff.

Pre-application visits are warmly encouraged particularly during the working day in order to view our students and teachers working together in well-equipped, specialist classrooms, using modern technologies and resources.

Please apply by downloading the application form or alternatively contact Yvette DeFeo, HR Manager on 01245 265821 or email yd@gbhs.co.uk please leave your name, address, telephone number and email details.
