Night Awake Staff - Residential School
Monday - Thursday 21.00 to 06.45 (including a short break), Term Time only. 37 hours per week (approx 150 days per year).
Actual starting salary per annum £22,640.63 (equivalent of £13.69 per hour) includes 5.7 weeks paid holiday allowance
We are seeking adedicated and vigilant Night Awake Staff member to join our residential team, supporting the overnight care and wellbeing of pupils with special educational needs. This is a vital role ensuring the safety, comfort, and security of our students throughout the night.
You will be responsible for:
Monitoring pupils at regular intervals and responding to their needs
Supporting pupils with personal care and basic medical needs
Maintaining a calm and secure environment overnight
Recording and reporting any incidents, concerns, or health issues
Liaising with day staff to ensure smooth handovers and continuity of care
Contributing to the upkeep and safety of the residential setting
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with special needs
A relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Care or equivalent)
Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and first aid procedures
Strong communication and report-writing skills
The ability to remain awake, alert, and responsive throughout the night
A calm, compassionate, and professional approach

A typical night awake shift would start by liaising with the daytime duty staff and helping to settle any children that are still awake, reading bedtime stories. Once all children are asleep you will need to be on hand to reassure and settle anyone that wakes, whilst they sleep you will be expected to carry out some light household duties as well as having an opportunity to study. In the morning you will be on hand to interact with the children as part of a team and help them with their morning routine.
Lexden Springs is an inspiring school where no two days are ever the same (but a smile is always guaranteed!) which caters for pupils aged 3 - 19 who have a variety of severe learning difficulties, including some with autism and/or challenging behaviour and some with serious medical conditions.Our pupils can start their boarding journey with us from the age of 5 years old up until their 16th birthday.
