DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

Pay Range: Local Government Scale 3

Actual Salary from: £21,252 - £21,589 (Points 5-6)

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an organised and enthusiastic individual to join our Design and Technology department as a Technician, supporting both teaching and learning.

  • This post is 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus non-pupil/INSET days). The provisional working pattern is 8:00am - 16:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am - 15:30pm Friday.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining equipment, materials, facilities and services in the faculty.
  • Managing the storage of materials, equipment and work efficiently.
  • Assisting with ordering and putting stock away after deliveries.
  • Working with the department to maintain and manage stock levels.
  • Preparing specialist materials and equipment for use in lessons.
  • Working as part of a team providing technical assistance to students during lessons.
  • Assisting in the making of teaching and learning resources.
  • Providing technical support to staff and pupils.
  • Assisting with the Faculty displays both in the department and around the school.
  • Assisting with the mounting and display of work for moderation.
  • Health and safety - maintain a record of risk assessment, health safety information and records of hazardous substances.
  • Keep up to date with appropriate training - health and safety, first aid.
  • Liaising with cleaners and maintenance staff, where necessary.

  • A good standard of education (ideally Maths/English GCSE grade A* to C or equivalent);
  • Experience of working in a school environment or in a supervisory role with young people will be an advantage;
  • A commitment to high standards of achievement from students and yourself;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to act on your own initiative.

St Helena School, part of the Sigma Trust, is a highly-regarded 11-16 co-educational Academy, recognised as Good by Ofsted in 2014 and now on a journey to Outstanding. Located on 17 acres in historic Colchester, the school has a fine blend of traditional and modern facilities and opened a £2.5m new Science block in 2015, and a £2.5m all weather pitch facility in February 2016.
