New Rickstones Academy is graded 'Good' (November 2023) and has a state of the art building offering fantastic facilities for both students and staff. A new building opened in September 2022 providing additional technology, science, IT and general teaching rooms. From September 2022, our PAN increased from 180 to 240 and we are now oversubscribed.
The SEND department has grown and is in a strong position to provide the support for our SEND students. It's an exciting time to join as we expand our team, resources and student opportunities. We're a friendly and supportive team who boast a wide range of expertise and experience levels.
We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to support students with learning difficulties/disabilities in mainstream classes, small groups and 1-1 in order to support student achievement and progress. The successful candidate will have:
- A good understanding of SEND and experience working with children with learning difficulties or disabilities;
- Experience of working with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties) or a willingness to undertake training opportunities to support children in this key area
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills including Maths and English GCSE graded 4 (or equivalent);
- The ability to motivate and encourage students;
- Understanding of strategies to help develop positive behaviour and engagement;
- Great communication skills.
Hours are 30.5 per week across 5 days and 39 weeks (Monday 8.30-3.45, Tuesday-Friday 8.30-3.15). This position is due to start in September 2024.
This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their journey supporting students with SEND. Equally, it would be a great opportunity for applicants who have a degree (or are studying for a degree), as you will gain experience to potentially develop a career within teaching. A number of our support staff have progressed to our Teacher Training programme.

New Rickstones Academy is a co-educational 11-19 comprehensive, part of Lift Schools. We have approximately 135 staff.
The school has modern, state of the art building offering a first class learning and working environment to students and staff. The main building opened in 2012 and a new 2-storey building was added in September 2022 to accommodate our rapidly increasing popularity and student numbers. This success is also evident in our increasing published admission number (PAN), up to 240 from 180 since September 2022.
