SCIENCE TECHNICIAN

Salary: Scale 4 Pt 7-8 (£20,827.42 - £21,177.20) actual salary per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

Hours: 37 hours per week term time only (39 weeks per year)

Start Date: 01 July 2024

We are looking to recruit a new technician to join an established and supportive technician team. The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering engaging and exciting practical science activities as part of a wider Science Department team.

The Science Department at King Edward VI Grammar School (KEGS) comprises 13 specialist teachers and 5 science technicians. The team are friendly and hardworking and are looking forward to welcoming an enthusiastic new colleague to join them.

The postholder will, in the main, be required to provide specific support to the Chemistry Department and within that area, to provide full technician support to teaching staff, particularly in the preparation and cleaning/clearing of lesson materials. The successful applicant will have good organisational, planning and time management skills. The postholder would be required to provide support to other areas of the Science Department as appropriate. Previous laboratory or school experience is desirable but not essential (although full specialist training will be provided).

Due to our stringent safeguarding protocol, applications for employment at KEGS can only be accepted on our formal Recruitment Application Form.

Application form and job description are available to download from our website www.kegs.org.uk, or by emailing recruitment@kegs.org.uk.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 22 May 2024. Interviews will be held week commencing 03 June 2024.

Information about the School

King Edward VI Grammar School is a selective boys' state school with a mixed Sixth Form and an exceptional academic and extra-curricular reputation based in Chelmsford. As a school specifically providing specialist education to very able young people, there is a strong focus on academic achievement, with the vast majority of students (both those boys who join in Year 7, and students, including girls, who join for the sixth form) going on to top universities. There is a serious work ethic at KEGS which derives from highly motivated students and dedicated staff. Recent results have put us near the top of national GCSE and A level rankings, and 23 students who left us in Summer 2019 gained places at Oxford or Cambridge and a further 23 went on to study medicine at university. However, league tables are not our guiding principle – we value breadth of study as well. We also focus significant effort on the progress of students who may find a particular subject area more challenging than others, and we have an extensive programme of mentor support.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
