LEAD PRACTITIONER OF SCIENCE

Pay Range: Leadership Pay Scale L4 - L8 (£50,807 - £56,082 p.a)

Start Date: 1st September 2024

The Role

We are seeking an exceptional practitioner who is committed to raising standards for students to join our established Science department as a Lead Practitioner.

The Lead Practitioner role is part of a wider leadership structure that moves the school forward. Lead Practitioners are part of our extended whole school leadership team working on faculty and whole school initiatives. Our recent Ofsted inspection (Jan 24) graded leadership as outstanding, and our middle leaders play a pivotal role in this achievement.

Visits to the School are welcomed.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • To improve student outcomes and engagement by ensuring high quality teaching and learning is consistent across the Science faculty and the wider school.
  • To drive whole school Teaching and Learning developments as a central part of the wider Teaching and Learning team.
  • To have in-depth knowledge of recent academic research in teaching and learning.
  • To have the skills and enthusiasm to make a significant contribution to our commitment to continued improvements in evidence-based teaching and learning strategies.
  • To work with the leadership team to develop appropriate CPD strategies to enable teaching within the Faculty, and across the school, to become consistently excellent.
  • Model outstanding, innovative and evidence-based pedagogical practice.
  • Develop and implement teaching and learning strategies throughout the faculty which raise the quality of teaching and learning of all staff and therefore raise student standards and progress.
  • Research and evaluate innovative curricular practices including leading edge technology for learning and draw on research outcomes and other sources of external evidence to inform own practice and that of colleagues.
  • Develop high quality teaching materials and schemes of learning throughout the faculty to support outstanding teaching.
  • Drive the effective use and development of IT to support and enhance teaching and learning at individual and departmental level.

We're looking for you if you have:

  • Demonstrable experience of high quality teaching and learning
  • Demonstrable experience of improving student outcomes
  • Demonstrable experience of effective performance management and quality improvement within a school environment
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and OFSTED Framework regarding effective leadership, management and self-evaluation
  • Knowledge and understanding of strategies to raise standards and achievement of students

St Helena School, part of the Sigma Trust, is a highly-regarded 11-16 co-educational Academy, recognised as Good by Ofsted in 2014 and now on a journey to Outstanding. Located on 17 acres in historic Colchester, the school has a fine blend of traditional and modern facilities and opened a £2.5m new Science block in 2015, and a £2.5m all weather pitch facility in February 2016.
