Deputy Manager
Purpose of post
1. To work under the direction of the manager and deputise for them as and when required
2. To support the aims and objectives of the setting and assist the manager in the organisation of a high quality establishment for children aged 2 to 5 years
3. To provide high standards of childcare and education - to include the monitoring and reviews of setting, this includes providing a safe, caring environment to enable the emotional, social and educational development of children, through individual attention and group activities
4. To direct and support staff as agreed by the setting manager
5. Fulfilling duties as the deputy safeguarding lead in the absence of the manager
6. To take on the role of 2 year old co-ordinator
Main Duties
1. To assist with the planning of the curriculum, using the early years foundation stage curriculum as guidance
2. To help set up the pre-school for the daily programme, ensuring daily safety checks are completed and to help tidy away at the end of the session
3. To act as a key worker to a group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met
4. To advise the Manager of any concerns, e.g. over children or parents in accordance with the settings safeguarding policies
5. To ensure all equipment and resources are of a suitable standard according to the settings health and safety policies
6. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences
7. To actively participate at team meetings, supervisions and appraisals
8. To attend training courses in house and outside of the setting as required and take responsibility for your own development
9. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of the job in accordance with the settings confidentiality policy
10. To actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring that all staff and volunteers observe and adhere to the setting policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm
11. To compile and keep updated Learning Journey's and next steps for your key children
12. To complete 2-3 year checks when required
13. To complete end of term reports and school transition reports when required
14. To ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained at all times
15. To ensure daily safety checks in all areas, risk assessments and headcounts are completed
16. To assist the Setting Manager in providing professional leadership and management of the pre-school
17. To oversee the room on a daily basis and deploy staff to ensure high quality practice and safety
18. To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the setting manager
Information about the School
Roman River Pre-School is an Ofsted registered and inspected, committee run pre-school based in the rural village of Fingringhoe, close to Colchester.
We are based in the local village hall where we offer children an exceptional outdoor woodlands area as well as indoor activities and a ‘classroom’ for those children starting primary school in the next academic year.
Roman River Pre-School offers quality pre-school education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for children aged 2 – 5 years.
As a registered charity, we are governed by the regulation and requirements of the Charity Commission (registered charity number 1202216), and we are also a member of the Early Years Alliance (EYA).
