Job Title: Deputy Manager - Early Years Setting
Reports To: Pre School Manager
Location: Walton on The Naze
Salary: £13.71 per hr
Hours: 08.30 - 4.00
Job Purpose
The Deputy Manager supports the Pre School Manager in the day-to-day running of the early years setting, ensuring high standards of care, education, safeguarding, and compliance with relevant regulations. The role involves leading staff, maintaining a stimulating learning environment, and promoting positive outcomes for all children.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Support the Nursery Manager in the overall management of the setting
Act as Manager in their absence
Lead, motivate, and support staff to deliver high-quality childcare and education
Assist with staff supervision, appraisals, and performance management
Contribute to staff meetings, training, and development plans
Quality of Care & Education
Ensure the setting delivers a high-quality curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Support planning, observation, and assessment processes
Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all children
Monitor and evaluate practice to maintain continuous improvement
Safeguarding & Welfare
Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (or support the DSL)
Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times
Promote children's health, safety, and wellbeing
Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality
Compliance & Administration
Support compliance with Ofsted requirements and other regulatory bodies
Assist with record-keeping, policies, and procedures
Help manage occupancy, staffing ratios, and rotas
Contribute to inspections and audits
Support with Recruitment and Selection, Induction training and Apprenticeship programme
Parent & Community Engagement
Build strong relationships with parents and carers
Support communication regarding children's development and wellbeing
Address queries or concerns professionally and promptly
Promote the setting within the local community
Person Specification
Essential
Level 3 qualification (or above) in Early Years / Childcare
Paediatric First Aid certification
Previous experience in an early year setting
Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Leadership or supervisory experience
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable
Level 5 qualification or working towards it
Experience supporting inspections (e.g., Ofsted)
L3 Designated Safeguarding Lead Training

We are open for 39 weeks of the year from 08.45 to 3.30. We have a capacity of 52 children presently.
We are a small dedicated team who strive to improve the educational outcomes for children as well as extending the children's life experiences through visits, outings and in house opportunities.
