The ESSET Outreach team currently delivers outreach support to mainstream schools across the four quadrants of Essex. Following the successful launch of its outreach offer, ESSET is looking to expand the team and recruit Outreach Support Workers/Teachers.
The service aims to improve educational outcomes for learners with SEND by supporting schools to provide high-quality, adaptive and early support, strengthen inclusive practice and remove barriers to learning. This reflects the ambition of the Department for Education's white paper, Every Child Achieving and Thriving, and its vision for every child to achieve and thrive through a more inclusive education system.
Working under the direction of the Outreach Lead, the successful candidate will support schools to implement recommendations, develop inclusive practice and meet the individual needs of learners with SEND.
As the outreach offer expands into Key Stage 3, the team will play an important role in supporting pupils and schools through the transition from primary to secondary education, promoting continuity of provision and ensuring that learners receive timely, appropriate support as they move into the next stage of their education.

Post Title: Outreach Support Worker/Teacher
Contract: 2 term secondment (potential to extend)
Reports to: Quadrant Outreach Lead
Hours: Part time/full-time options available
Salary: Teaching MPS/SEN Allowance/HLTA Scales (dependant on experience)
The Outreach Support Worker/Teacher will contribute to the ESSET Outreach service by supporting schools to implement inclusive practices and strategies for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They will model effective classroom practice, deliver interventions, and provide advice and guidance to school staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively under the direction of the Outreach Lead to embed SEND recommendations in schools.
- Provide support and advice to school staff to promote inclusive practices.
- Model high-quality teaching and learning strategies within classrooms.
- Deliver or support with interventions.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of outreach training sessions.
- Write clear and accurate reports to a good professional standard.
- Maintain excellent and timely communication with schools and other professionals.
- Work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Ensure safeguarding policies are always adhered to.
- Adopt a therapeutic approach to behaviour management.
- Be committed to further personal development.
Person Specification
Essential
- Relevant qualifications in SEND or Education; HLTA/ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in an educational setting for pupils with complex needs. Knowledge of evidence-based interventions.
- Ability to work independently under the direction of the Outreach Lead and collaboratively with professionals.
- Inclusive ethos and passion for SEND pupils being included. Confident modelling good classroom practice and embedding SEN strategies.
- Awareness and understanding of safeguarding policy. Professional attitude and therapeutic approach to behaviour.
- Good communication and report writing skills. Flexible working approach. Competent IT user. Clean driving license and access to transport.
Desirable
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience in EYFS or similar settings.
- Experience leading or contributing to multi-agency work.
- Experience developing whole-school inclusion approaches.
- Additional safeguarding or behaviour management training.
- Experience supporting outreach or advisory work.
