Looking for an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pupils with severe autism? Look no further! Chatten Free School, a local authority funded special needs free school in the Witham (Essex) area, is seeking a Class Teacher to join our amazing team.
Role purpose
The core purpose of the SEN teacher role is to effectively manage the class assigned and ensure that all pupils receive an effective programme of teaching and learning that addresses needs.
In order to achieve this purpose, teachers will:
Assessment, curriculum and programming
· Support in regular assessments using the school assessment frameworks on a 6 monthly basis
· Monitor data and graphs at minimum on a weekly basis
· Update and monitor educational programmes
· Construct programmes and set new targets in collaboration with the BCBA
· Ensure clear links between the school's curriculum and the National curriculum
· Ensure that pupils access a positive and stimulating learning environment which is well organised and provides access to appropriate learning materials
Line management responsibilities
Class teachers are responsible for all elements of the line management of tutors and senior tutors in their class team this includes:
· Daily line management and support
· Probation process
· Target setting
· Back to work interviews and absence monitoring
· Competency assessments
· Monitoring completion of training courses
In addition, teachers are responsible for managing their own ongoing performance and support needs in partnership with their line manager. This includes taking an active role in their own development and taking personal responsibility for the identification of L and D opportunities in partnership with the line manager.
EHCPs
· Write EHCP reviews and consulting with the BCBA
· Ensure targets are SMART
· Lead review meetings ensuring that they are supportive and focussed on the needs of the pupil while taking account of the needs of families.
Behaviour
· Support tutors with running of behaviour support plans and ensuring that behaviour support plans are followed
· Monitor behaviour data
· Share significant information with the BCBA and suggesting changes/ requesting support
Logistics
· Timetable all elements class activity
· Timetable meetings and training
Safeguarding
· Report all safeguarding concerns to the appropriate person/authority
· Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding and actively promote the well-being of children and young people.
Training and development
· Complete all online and live training courses as directed
· Monitor tutor completion of online training
· Construct online training courses as needed
· Deliver live training as needed
Parents and outside professionals
· Ensure tutors are sharing information with parents effectively
· Attend parents' evenings and other meetings
· Be the primary contact for parents of pupils in that class
· Manage regular family engagement
Additional
· Perform tutor duties as and when required due to absence or sickness
· Play a full part in the running of the school and actively promote and model the school core values
· Encourage interaction and teamwork within the school, share ideas and new initiatives and identify new ways of teaching the curriculum. When required, take a leading role in an area of school development.
· Assist the College/school by taking an area of responsibility within the school as agreed with the Head Teacher and Leadership team, depending on the strengths/interests of the teacher and the present needs of the College/school
· Comply with school policies and procedures and complete risk assessments as appropriate.

Information about the School
We are a specialist day free school in Witham, Essex working with children and young people who are severely affected by their autism and associated learning difficulties. Our pupils are ages 4-19. Most of our pupils are pre-vocal or in the early stages of developing communicative skills.
We believe that through a consistent and individualised curriculum, using effective and evidence based learning techniques we can ensure that our pupils leave us as independent as possible and with life-long socially significant skills which will enable them to access the world around them in a rich and meaningful way.

Our primary focus is to provide all our pupils with an effective form of communication which they can use throughout their lives. We also aim to teach them important tolerance, life and academic skills which will be functional in their real lives beyond school.
Chatten provision includes access to individualised curriculums based on input in the areas of; applied behaviour analysis (ABA), speech and language therapy (SALT), occupational therapy (OT) and qualified teacher (QTS) level educational interventions. We use evidence based interventions and monitor progress meticulously to ensure that methods are effective for the pupil.
